The nature of their trade, as Wireless Operators meant that many of the boys flew as aircrew, often combining the job with that of Air Gunner. Approximately 600 did not survive the War. Quite a few of the Boy Entrants were decorated for heroism (many posthumously), and no doubt many others should have been. One case that emphasizes the fact that others deserved recognition is highlighted in Rev Frere's book. 550860 LAC Lawrence Royston Reynolds was a member of a 3-man crew of an aircraft known as Fairy Battle No P2204 which was shot down during the attack on Maastricht Bridge on 12 May 1940. The Pilot, FO Donald Garland and the Observer, Sgt Tom Gray both posthumously received the VC. The Wireless Operator Air Gunner, LAC Reynolds, did not receive an honour. The next page shows the Boy Entrants known to have been decorated. It is possible that some have been omitted - if their service number changed for any reason, they are not easy to identify. If others should be mentioned, please let me know and I'll add them to the list.
