Surrounded by Physics
|
Our daily life is full of physics. Most of the time we don't even notice. it is, however, fun and instructive to every once in a while take notice of it. There are plenty of occasions where we could wonder about the physics behind our daily life experiences. For instance, have you ever thought about the color of the sky? Why is it blue and not white? Why is it during early morning or late evening red? There are plenty of observations that can be made and explained via physics. They deal with our environment like the atmosphere and why there are sometimes two rainbows but no-one sees three. Ever noticed that the order of the colors of the two rainbows is exactly mirrored? But also in and around our house we find ample examples to think about. Why do we paint our heaters white, when we know that black objects radiate much more heat? What do CD's, beatles, butterflies and thin oil films have in common? They can produce very nice color effects like displaying the rainbow. But why? |

I have discussed all these question and many more during several years of lecturing freshmen students of Applied Physics. Finally, I have collected them into a book called "Surrounded by Physics". For those of you that might be interested, here is the info: |
