In Sanskrit, Vidhya means wisdom and science (
wikipedia). We believe that the near future will literally bring information at one’s fingertips – the emergence of mobile internet devices and touch-enabled smartphones opens up a new channel of discovery – extending the reach of online learning to everyone, everywhere. Vidhya’s interface and teaching style will engage current students, vocational learners and beyond.
Vidhya is a software package that enables ubiquitous e-learning on mobile devices. Intended to be used on touch screens, it establishes an engaging experience of 3D browsing; this interaction sustains the discovery of complex design and engineering details.
The videos below captures the concept in use - please note that these were just initial recordings - more to follow soon! The software is available and runs on windows computers (download).
As a part of the EADIS project on teaching automotive telematics, the demonstration of Vidhya featured work of Mechanical Engineering students on tele-sensing of a hybrid car. This particular work was performed by TU Delft assistant professors Jouke Verlinden and David Peck.

In modern e-learning systems, it is key to engage the user with relevant and up-to-date-material. In its current implementation, it is easy to import other models and content; a standardized XML format has been developed to represent the 3D learning objects that constitute the annotations. Maintenance of the annotations can be done by file acces, possibly in a shared setting. Furthermore, the teacher version of Vidhya also allows to add and edit annotations on the fly.
The pilot was implemented in Adobe Director, which encompasses a prototyping platform hosting both 3D and web content. It is extremely easy to adapt the user interface, while the content is stored in separate files to ensure repurposing. The initial implementation was evaluated by telematics experts and is currently being tested by students and automotive designers.
