EADIS Approach

The project will design, develop and test a virtual work environment called the Digital Innovation Studio (DIS). The DIS will also be used to transfer knowledge via a short course and information on vehicle telematics so that the sector has the skills, knowledge and infrastructure to successfully develop cars, which excite consumers and respond to societal needs.

Partnership

The project will be governed by an Advisory Group (AG), made up of influential organisations within the automotive industry including car manufacturers, industry research institutions and others in each partner country. The AG will, nominate employees to test the DIS, review and comment on the results and recommend the DIS within the sector. The delivery partners, educational institutions from the UK, Netherlands, Germany, Finland and Italy will combine their existing projects in virtual work environments, telematics and e-learning to develop and test the DIS and promote the project to their networks.

Sustainability

This project is seen as the first rung on a long ladder. All of the partners have had a memorandum of understanding to work together in place for approximately one year.

It was confirmed at the video conference on the 13 th March that this project would be the first step to this alliance of partners developing a one stop shop design to realisation studio, incorporating telematics as a means to overcoming societal problems related to transport such as safety, congestion, reducing CO2 emissions etc.

Taking this into account the project will include an annual sustainability report, which will detail the funding strategy, highlighting opportunities to continue and grow the work and mainstreaming opportunities such as an EADIS alliance with the Society of Automotive Engineers.

Annual sustainability reports will include a mainstreaming strategy and will identify further funds to be accessed. We hope that the partnership would endeavour to put in a minimum of 3 bids per year in order to ensure that we can sustain and build upon the project. A numbers of ideas have already been circulated relating to this.

  • The Advisory Group will play a key role in sustainability. They will be charged with mainstreaming the EADIS, should they evaluate it as useful for industry. This will involve Encouraging take up of the EADIS infrastructure for design projects
  • Distribution of the guide on telematics applicable to vehicles
  • Recognition/standardisation of the ‘introduction to telematics course’
